1989

November 29	H. Aliyev gave an interview to A. Karaulov for the magazine “ Teatralnaya zhizn.”
December 14	Sadarak, Gunnut and Havush villages of Sharur district were hardly fired by the Armenians.
December 31	Ten thousands of people in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dismantled the barred wires of the USSR border poles from Ordubad up to Sadarak.

1990

January 18-19	The Armenians with the help of USSR Ministry of Defense’s 7th Army occupied Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Sharur district Karki village.
January 19	According to the decree adopted by the Parliament “On Sociopolitical Situation in Nakhchivan” Nakhchivan ASSR excluded itself from the USSR membership and declared itself as an independent republic in response to “Brutal Violation the Clauses of Qars Treaty, threat for the life and territorial disintegrity of the Autonomous Republic”
January 19	M. S. Gorbachev signed the resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On Application of Emergency Situation in Baku City” effective from 20^th of January.
January 19-20	The military troops of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR, the USSR State Security Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR were drawn into Baku and had severely punished the peaceful population.
January 20	The Resident Representative of Azerbaijan to Moscow S. Ibrakimov called H. A. Aliyev who was under treatment at “Barvikha” sanatorium and informed him about January tragedy.
January 21	H. Aliyev visited Azerbaijan Representatives to Moscow and in front of publicity made a speech and seriously accusing the responsible for these tragedy persons.
January 27	The Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR adopted a decree “On Sociopolitical Situation in Nakhchivan”, “On non –conformity with the Azerbaijan Constitution the decision of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from January 19, 1990”
February 4	The article published on the newspaper “Pravda” “Aliyevizm or missing for the good times” launched the political intimidation against Aliyev.
March 27	There were wounded six people from Shada village of Shahbuz district as a result of Armenian’s military attack.
March 28	As a result of shooting of Sadarak by Armenian side one person died and three people were wounded.
March 29	In Kharmachatak Armenians killed village of Babek district one person.
May 5	There was published an article “It is also a game by clan” on the newspaper “Communist” (author Sh. Yaqubov).
June	On the 6^th issue of the magazine “Ulduz” there was published an interview of H. Aliyev from Moscow to the journalist E. Ahmadova.
July 22	At 10:35 H. Aliyev arrived in Nakhchivan.
July 22	H. Aliyev conducted a meeting with local population at Lenin square upon his arrival to Nakhchivan. There were gathered around 100 thousand of population.
August 1	At pre election meeting of the labor unit of Nakhchivan Knitted Goods Factory H. Aliyev was nominated as a candidate to the deputy by the election point No. 2 named after M. F. Akhundov of Nakhchivan ASSR.
August 8	At their meeting the electors from Aylis village of Ordubad district nominated H. Aliyev as a deputy candidate to Azerbaijan SSR from Vanand election point No. 349.
August 21	The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Nakhchivan adopted resolution on granting Nakhchivan ASSR citizenship to H. A. Aliyev
August 25	The newspaper “Respuklika” published the interview of A. Abdulla “H. Aliyev: I have trusted the people”
August 25	The electors from Babek district election point No. 340 nominated H. Aliyev as a Pepole’s Deputy Candidate to Azerbaijan SSR and the election point No. 2 named after M. F. Akhundov nominated H. Aliyev as a People’s Deputy Candidate to Nakhchivan ASSR
August 26	H. Aliyev gave an interview to the journalists of the newspaper “Sovet Gurcustani” published in Tbilisi.
September 30	There were conducted Azerbaijan SSR People Deputies and local deputies’ elections. As a result of the first round elections an individual pensioner H. Aliyev was elected to the post of People’s Deputy of Azerbaijan SSR from Nehram election point No. 340 and from election point No. 2 named after M. F. Akhundov he was elected as Nakhchivan ASSR People’s Deputy of Nakhchivan ASSR.
November 17	Nakhchivan ASSR Supreme Soviet’s 12^th convocation of the first session headed by H. Aliyev started its work.
November 17	The first session of Nakhchivan ASSR Supreme Soviet headed by H. Aliyev adopted the historical decisions: “About change of the name of Nakhchivan ASSR”, “About Nakhchivan AR’s High State authorization structure”, “About the state attributes of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”.

November 21	Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis adopted a decision worked out by H. Aliyev “On political assessment of tragic events took place in Baku in January 1990”
December 14	Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis adopted a decision “Regarding the situations in NKAR of Azerbaijan SSR, Shaumyan district and Chaykend village of Khanlar district”.

1991

January 20	The deputy H. Aliyev made a speech at the funeral ceremony conducted at Nakhchivan war victim’s Alley.
February 5	The 12^th convocation of the first session of Azerbaijan SSR Supreme Soviet started its work.
February 15-27	The newspapers “Aydinlig” and “Veten Sesi” published the full text of speech delivered by Azerbaijan SSR People’s Deputy H. Aliyev at the first session of Azerbaijan SSR Supreme Soviet.
March 7	At the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic H. Aliyev delivered a speech and voted against conducting a referendum on Azerbaijan’s participation for support of USSR (this speech was published on the newspaper “Ses”, published on March 15, 1991)
March 14	The session of the Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan AR adopted a decision about Nakhchivan AR’s non- participation at the All Union Referendum for support of USSR
April 5	A. Jalilov was released from his position of Chairman of the Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan AR in connection with the new assignment in Baku
April 10	Sharur district’s Akhura and Havush villages were heavily fired by the Khachic village of Armenia and there were made the attempts to surround these villages. On his way from Akhur to Havush a policeman was killed in UAZ vehicle.
April 16	There was an opening ceremony of the bridge providing the transparent border passage from Nehram village to Iran
April 24-25	The participants of the meeting held in front of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet demanded the elimination of the article from the Azerbaijan Constitution on age limits for the election of Azerbaijan President; they accused this article as it was violating the civic right of H.Aliyev
April 28	During the whole day Sadarak was undergone shootings by the Armenians, 13 village people were wounded. On the same day Jagazir, Gunnut and Havush villages of Sharur district were also fired.
May 20	Sadarak was undergone of continuous shootings by the Armenians
June 26	The first session of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic adopted a law “On elections of the president of the Azerbaijan Republic” and it was decided to conduct the election of the president on Sunday, September 18, 1991. The people’s deputy H.Aliyev participated at the session.
July 19	The individual pensioner, the member of CPSU H.Aliyev sent his declaration to the party organization of the Cabinet of Ministers about his leaving the party membership.
August 19-21	There was occurred the so called” August Putsch” in Moscow
August 21	A.Mutallibov submitted a declaration through radio and television showing his hopes and sympathy to the rebellions and to the State Commission of Emergency Situations
August 24	The Emergency Session of Nakhchivan AR showed its negative attitude towards the SCES, it was liquidated all the party and comsomol organizations supporting this commission and all their properties were nationalized
August 27-28	By the demands of the participants Sharur, Shahbuz, Julfa districts it was dismantled Lenin’s monuments in Nakhchivan city
August 29	Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet’s Emergency session took place. Because of his speech while discussing the issues referring “The political situation in the republic” H. Aliyev was undergone the political intimidations and starting from now up to June 13, 1993 he didn’t participate in the sessions of Supreme Soviet, and at the meeting of National Council and Milli Mejlis.
August 30	H. Aliyev made a speech in the Emergency session of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet in connection with “THE DECLARATION ON INDEPENDENCE OF AZERBAIJAN”
September 3	Nakhchivan AR discussed the question about the position of Chairman of Supreme Mejlis. After the demands thousands of participants’ of the meeting and the insisting requests of the majority of deputies it was included into the agenda the issue of H.Aliyev’s appointment as Chairman of Supreme Mejlis, although H.Aliyev several times took a floor and showed his disagreement about it. The session unanimously (1 against and 4 didn’t response) elected him as Chairman of Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan AR.
September 4	The Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan AR by adoption the decision “On Elections of the Azerbaijan President” suspended the presidential election in the territory of the autonomous republic and requested from the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet to postpone these elections for the later period.
September 6	The Presidium of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet adopted a declaration about “On non-conformity of the decision of Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis about non conduction of the presidential elections in the territory of the autonomous republic with the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic”
September 7	The Chairman of Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev released a declaration on attempts by Azerbaijan communist leaders to impose their wills on the legislative structures of the Nakhchivan AR and violation of the democratic principles; he requested from the international organizations for objective assessment of situation to send their representatives to Nakhchivan AR on the Azerbaijan president’s election day
September 7	By decision of Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis it was founded the State Defense Committee of Nakhchivan AR.
September 9	H.Aliyev submitted a request to the President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin to support the democratic processes launched in Nakhchivan.
September 12	There was a telephone conversation between the Chairman of the Armenian Supreme Soviet Levon Ter Petrosyan and Heydar Aliyev. H.Aliyev claimed to take the necessary measures for putting an end to the hostage taking form the borderline villages and to stop the attacks to the railway wagons.
September 14	After four hours discussions at the XXXIV Congress the Azerbaijan CP took a decision about its dismissal
October 18	The second session of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet adopted the Constitutional act “ On State Independence of the Azerbaijan Republic”
October 19	H.Aliyev assessed the state independence as national treasure in his telegram sent to the session of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet and congratulated the Azerbaijan people on this occasion
October 29	H. Aliyev participated and made a speech at the opening ceremony of the temporary bridge between Turkey and Nakhchivan.
November 5	Heydar Aliyev had a telephone conversation with the president of Armenia Levon Ter Petrosyan. It was discussed the situation on the borders.
November 13	The journalist form the famous newspapers “Hurriyyat” and “Millat”from Turkey, “Wshington Post” from the USA had visited to Nakhchivan. H.Aliyev conducted a press conference with foreign journalists.
November 18	The first truck with full of provisional goods arrived to Nakhchivan from Konya. H.Aliyev received the representatives of intelligentsia from Konya.
November 21	It was temporarily suspended the movement of railway wagons to Baku from Nakhchivan and also in reverse order.
December 8	It was stopped a transportation of gas to Nakhchivan through the Armenian territory.
December 11	The national Council of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet adopted a decision “On organization of passengers’ transportation to Nakhchivan”
December 13	Nakhchivan city PD EC renamed the Lenin Avenue as Azadliq Avenue and Lenin Square as Azadlig Square
December 16	Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis adopted a decision to commemorate the 31^st of December of each year as a Day of World Wide Solidarity of Azeri Turks

1992

January 13	In the declaration adopted by the Presidium of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis it was requested to make a political assessment the January 19-20^th,1990 tragic events
January 18	The National Council of the Supreme Soviet adopted a decision “On commemoration of the Day of Victims” (Long time before on November 21, 1990 the session of the Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis had already adopted the likely decision and proclaimed the 20^th of January as a day of national Mourning).
January 19	H.Aliyev received a group of representatives sent by Suleyman Demiral. It was discussed the issues related to the release of Nakhchivan- Turkey customs point
February 14	A multimillion meeting took place at Azadlig Square. The participants demanded the impeachment of the representatives of the Pop front occupying the leading posts
February 24	Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs A. Vilayati visited to Baku. He called his visit to Baku as “The first step in resolution of Garabagh problem”
February 25-26	By the military assistance of Russia’s dislocated in Khankendi moto infantry military unit no 366 the Armenian military units occupied the Khodjali city and with special cruelty had killed the local population
March 1	It was released the new airport in Nakhchivan capable to receive the heavy airplanes. On this occasion H.Aliyev made a speech, expressed his condemnations referring the Khodjali tragedy and gave a condolence to the people.
March 6	After the continuing demands by the participants of the meeting proceeding more than two days A. Mutallibov made a decision about his retirement from his presidential post in the Emergency session of the Supreme Soviet
March 9	There took part a telephone conversation between the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic Y. Mammadov and H.Aliyev. They exchanged their opinions on socio-political situation in the country.
March 10	There took place a meeting between the Chairman of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev and the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian Republic B. Araksyan. It was discussed the issues related to Nagorny Garabagh and ceasefire.
March 22-25	By the invitations of the Turkish President T. Ozal and the Prime Minister S. Demiral the Chairman of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev paid an official visit to Turkey.
March 24	It was signed a “Protocol of cooperation between Nakhchivan under Azerbaijan’s authority and Turkish government”. In the signing ceremony H.Aliyev and S.Demiral delivered a speech
March 25	The Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic adopted a decree “On conduction of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan”. The date of election was fixed on June 7, 1992.
April 1	H. Aliyev received the CSCE representative group arrived to Nakhchivan. H.Aliyev gave them information about the full blockade of Nakhchivan and occupation of Karki village.
April 6	Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis adopted a decree “On privatization of the unprofitable farms and collective farms”
April 15	The Milis posts of Sadarak district were fired by Ararat district of Armenia
April 24	It was fully stopped the movement of railway wagons coming from baku to Nakhchivan and the reverse order.
April 28	The participants of the meting held in front of the Supreme Soviet in Baku demanded to call the Supreme Soviet and make the amendments in Azerbaijan Constitution referring the age limitation for the presidential elections, and put the candidacy of H.Aliyev to the post of Azerbaijan President in the forthcoming elections.
May 1	The Plenipotentiary Representative of the USA to Azerbaijan R.Finn arrived in Nakhchivan and met with H.Aliyev. It was discussed the issues of current socio-political situation the ways of resolution of Nagorny Garabagh problem and some other issues.
May 3	H.Aliyev received the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan. The Ambassador handed over the letter by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting the opening of IRI’s Consulate in Nakhchivan. H.Aliyev expressed the serious need of opening of Azerbaijan Consulate in Tebriz.
May 5	There took place a telephone conversation between the Turkish Premier S. Demiral and H.Aliyev. S. Demiral promised to visit to Nakhchivan by the invitation of H.Aliyev.
May 5	The Armenian forces crossed the border and attacked the borderline villages and as well as to Sadarak.
May 6	There took place a meeting in the central square of the Autonomous Republic in connection with Nakhchivan’s defense. H.Aliyev made a speech at the meeting.
May 7	3 people died and 42 were wounded in the battles near Sadarak, Havush, Gunnut and Yayji villages.
May 7	Sadarak, Havush villages were fired by various types of cannons. 20 people were wounded.
May 7	In the meeting conducted in Sharur H. Aliyev called the people for mobilization in connection with current situation on the borderlines.
May 8	It was discussed the Garabagh issue at the meeting held in Tebriz and there was approved a joint declaration of the government leaders from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iran
May 14	The Armenian armed forces occupied Shusha. There took place an Emergency session of the Azerbaijan Republic Supreme Soviet. A.Muttalibov illegally occupied the post of the Azerbaijan President. The National Council was released and it was declared an Emergency situation in Baku.
May 15	By Azerbaijan television H.Aliyev appealed the people and assessed the decision of the Emergency session of the Supreme Soviet as” an antidemocratic measure”; he declared that it was committed a crime against the nation.
May 15	At about 1800 APF had taken the power into their hands. A.Mutallibov escaped from Azerbaijan.
May 16	At the National Council of the Supreme Soviet it was offered to create the government structure but a group of deputies insisted that the only possible candidate to lead the government was H.Aliyev
May 18	Y. Mammadov was dismissed from the post of Supreme Soviet’s Chairman and Acting post of the President of Republic. The deputy chairman of SS I. Gambarov and the chairman of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H. Aliyev were nominated to the candidacy of chairman of the Supreme Soviet. It was used the irrelevant and useless declaration that “It was impossible to reach H. Aliyev by the telephone.” As a result of it only I. Gambarov’s name was included into the election bulletin.
May 18	After the long term and strong fire preparations the Armenian forces attacked to Sadarak. The enemies occupied some posts of national army.
May 18	H. Aliyev spoke to the Prime minister Suleyman Demiral and Foreign Minister H. Chetin about the current situation.
May 18	In his telephone conversation with the Armenian President L. Ter-Petrosyan H. Aliyev demanded from him to stop the attacks and firings.
May 18	It was continued the heavy firings of Nakhchivan’s borderline villages. 15 people died and 80 persons were heavily wounded during Nakhchivan’s defense.
May 18	The Armenian armed forces occupied Lachin district.
May 18-19	National armed forces returned back the military positions near Sadarak.
May 19	The Turkish President T. Ozal suggested sending the Turkish troops to Nakhchivan in connection with military aggression.
May 20	Turkish Cabinet of Ministers released a declaration due to aggression against Nakhchivan. It was noted that the policy of aggression would bring the catastrophic fatalities to the Armenian government itself.
May 21	Sharur district was cannoned by chemical weapons from Armenian side.
May 21	By S. Demiral’s request a group of representatives from Turkish Foreign Ministry arrived in Nakhchivan. They got acquainted with the military situation in the battling areas and met with H. Aliyev.
May 21	Azerbaijan foreign ministry as send a Note in connection with situation in Nakhchivan.
May 22	By the invitation of H. Aliyev the delegates of the Committee of International Red Cross arrived in Nakhchivan.
May 22	Nakhchivan women held a protest meeting in front of the military units of Russia dislocated in Nakhchivan.
May 22	H. Aliyev appealed the population of Autonomous republic by television. H. Aliyev told that, as a result of diplomatic efforts 57 states officially disapproved the Armenian aggression against Nakhchivan. He said: “It’s a pity that our neighbor Iran has not expressed his position yet.”
May 24	The Iranian Foreign Minister H. Vilayati rang H. Aliyev and noted that his country is against the continuation of war and supports the peaceful resolution of Garabagh problem.
May 25	By the decision of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis it was established Nakhchivan’s development and defense fund.
May 25	Sadarak and Ordubad districts were fired during 4 hours. One of the Nakhchivan AR defenders was killed.
May 27	At the meeting with the special UN group visiting to Nakhchivan H.Aliyev informed about the consequences of Armenian aggression
May 28	The Turkish Prime Minister S. Demiral visited to Nakhchivan.
May 28	In Sadarak took place an opening ceremony of the bridge connecting Nakhchivan and Turkey. S.Demiral, the acting President of the Azerbaijan Republic I.Gambarov and the Chairman of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev made a speech in the opening ceremony.
June 1-5	By the invitation of the Prime Minister S. Demiral H.Aliyev paid an official visit to Turkey. H.Aliyev participated at the National Economic Congress held in Izmir.
June 3	At about 22:00 night the Armenian side intensively fired Sadarak township by the heavy cannons. 4 people out of the defenders were heavily wounded and it caused the big destructions.
June 7	It was conducted the presidential elections. The Central Election Commission decided that Abulfaz (Elchibay) Gadirgulu oglu Aliyev was elected as the President of the Azerbaijan Republic.
June 7	“Real” independent information agency launched its activity in Nakhchivan.
June 14	The Armenian side fired Buzgov and Garmachatag villages of Babek district. One person was wounded.
June 15	The Armenians fired the Ashagi Buzgov, Yukhari Buzgov, Garmachatag villages of Babek district and Sadarak township4 persons in Sadarak, 5 in Ashagi Buzgov were wounded and 1 person was killed..
June 17	The USA’s Affairs in Charge to the Azerbaijan Republic B.Miles visited Nakhchivan and met with H.Aliyev. H. Aliyev expressed his confidence that the USA will do all its best to establish peace and order in Nakhchivan.
June 17	At the meeting of the Presidium of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev delivered a speech; he assessed some Baku official circles’ attempts for changing the status of Nakhchivan AR as similar to the Armenian aggressive policy: “ Any kind of attempts tending to change the official status of Nakhchivan and its territorial disintegrity will decisively be suppressed”
June 20	The charity organization “Nakhchivan” founded in Ganja gave the first hand information about Nakhchivan and made an appeal to the people, showed their support to H. Aliyev’s policy.
July 2	H.Aliyev visited to 14 thousand Sadarak refugees for getting an acquaintance with their domestic conditions.
July 2	In “Azerbaijan” printing house there was published the photo album “Nakhchivan lives and fights” prepared by “Real” information agency.
July 13	It was stopped the electricity supply of Nakhchivan coming from Armenia via Akstafa.
July 15	Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic adopted a decision “On current situation in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Azerbaijan Republic”.
July 17	The Armenians with short intervals fired the borderline districts of Nakhchivan AR. There were people killed and wounded.
July 23	H. Aliyev received the head of the advocacy group of Russia President on peaceful resolution of Nagorny Garabagh conflict V.Kazimirov.
July 25	Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis adopted a resolution “On Arrangement of Defense of Nakhchivan AR”
July 30	Sadarak township was fired with cannons by Armenian side.
August 3	Urmiya province of Iran donated provision and fuel to Nakhchivan
August 10-14	By S. Demiral’s invitation the chairman of Nakhchivan Supreme Mejlis H.Aliyev paid a visit to Turkey. He participated at the solemn celebrities devoted to the foundation of Igdir province and together with S. Demiral he made a speech at that meeting and after which he had left for Ankara.
August 11	After 15:00 the Armenian side fired Havush village of Sharur district and Sadarak township.
August 13-14	There took place heavy battles for Havush village of Sharur and Shada village of Shahbuz districts.
August 16	The Armenian side heavily fired Ordubad district. There had fallen more than 50 shells only in Ordubad city.
August 18	The last soldier from the Russian moto infantry troops No. 75 dislocated in Nakhchivan had left the country. H.Aliyev participated in the signing ceremony about the full hand over of the military properties to the disposal of national Army brigade.
August 19	There was held a huge meeting in front of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H. Aliyev delivered a speech in that meeting and informed that the Pop front was intending to prepare attempt on his life.
August 22-26	By the invitation of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs H. Aliyev arrived in Tehran in personal airplane “Boing 727” of the President Rafsanjani. After meetings and negotiations with the high authorities of Iran there was signed a protocol “On cooperation in the different spheres between Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Azerbaijan Republic and Islamic Republic of Iran”
August 26	Sadarak township was fired with mortars.
August 26-27	There was held a meeting of armed militiamen in front Nakhchivan AR Ministry of Internal Affairs. The speakers blamed the forces of Azerbaijan authorities and as well as I. Hamidov in aggravation the tension in Nakhchivan.
September 13	H. Aliyev delivered a speech by Nakhchivan television and refuted the gossips about his retire and Nakhchivan separatist policy.
September 13	at night Batabat and Shada settlements of Shahbuz district were fired with different weapons. One person died and 5 were wounded from the national army forces.
September 29	The last Russian border guards left the territory of Nakhchivan AR. It was signed the document about handover of all military and economic facilities belonging to Russia to the disposal of Nakhchivan border unit.
October 10	It was issued the first number of the weekly socio-political newspaper “Nakhchivan” in Baku. H. Aliyev sent a letter of congratulation to this newspaper.
October 16	A big group of Azerbaijan intelligentsia sent their request to H. Aliyev to lead the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), which was under formation.
October 18	For the first time Azerbaijan’s three-color flag was raised at Nakhchivan border outpost. H. Aliyev participated at that solemn meeting.
October 23	By H. Aliyev’s initiative it was broadly celebrated 110^th anniversary of Houseyn Cavid.
October 24	In response to the appeal of Azerbaijan intellectual people it was published H. Aliyev’s letter “For the New, Independent Azerbaijan”.
October 24	APF’s Nakhchivan branch’s armed groups and Ordubad district policemen made an attempt for coup d’etat in Nakhchivan.
October 24	At the meeting held in front of Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis the people showed their solidarity with H. Aliyev and demanded from the military groups to abandon the buildings of Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Committee of TV and Radio Broadcasting.
October 24	H. Aliyev several times rang the head of APF, the Azerbaijan President A. Elchibey and requested from him to put an end to the sabotages by APF’s Nakhchivan branch.
October 25	H. Aliyev made an appeal to the people by Nakhchivan radio.
October 25	in emergency session of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis it was disapproved the attempts of coup d’etat on 24^th October and there was created a deputy commission for disarming this military grouping.
October 27	At the All Republic meeting held at Nakhchivan Azadlig square the participants demanded from the President of the Azerbaijan Republic A. Elchibay to put an end the violent actions against H. Aliyev and Nakhchivan.
October 27	H. Aliyev held a press conference for local and foreign journalists.
October 28	There was a relative peace in Nakhchivan. The Supreme Mejlis conducted a meeting in connection with 24 October events.
November 5	It was held a meeting of NAP’s organizational committee. H. Aliyev was unanimously elected the head of organizational committee.
November 21	It was held NAP’s constitutive conference in Nakhchivan city. In the open election H. Aliyev was elected as chairman of the party.
December 3	It was conducted a solemn meeting at Araz river border line stations in connection with availability of 40 Mega Watt electricity supply provided by Iran for Nakhchivan. H. Aliyev delivered a speech at that meeting.
December 3	It was opened Shahtakhti-Poldasht crossing point connecting Iran with Nakhchivan. H. Aliyev and Iranian Minister of Cooperation G. Shafeyi participated at that opening ceremony.
December 29	“Nakhchivan” newspaper published H. Aliyev’s article “A man becomes happy when he lives for the people.”
December 29	H. Aliyev made a speech by Nakhchivan television and recommended not to believe the gossips and appealed the people to keep the stability for overcoming the tension.

January 20	In Nakhchivan AR it was held a meeting dedicated to the 3^rd anniversary of January tragic events. H. Aliyev delivered a speech at the war victims Alley in front of meeting participants.
January 20	H. Aliyev sent a telegram and a special letter to the President B. Clinton and congratulated him in connection with his election of the USA President
February 4	The USA ambassador to Baku R. Miles paid a two-day visit to Nakhchivan. It was discussed the issues related to H. Aliyev’s congratulation letter to Mr. Clinton, the needs of Nakhchivan and also the mechanism of delivery the humanitarian assistance.
February 5	The Turkish Consulate in Nakhchivan started its activity.
February 12	In Baku H. Aliyev met with Azerbaijan President A. Elchibay. At the meeting they discussed the situation in Nakhchivan AR caused by blockade; they also exchanged their opinions on some aspects of internal and foreign policy.
February 13	H. Aliyev met with NAP members at its Baku headquarter.
February 17	By the order of Nakhchivan technical production and communication department the national enterprise of France “DSR holdings” printed the first post stamp with Nakhchivan AR’s map and H. Aliyev’s picture on it.
March 3	In Baku H. Aliyev met with the plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassadors of Turkey and the USA.
March 5	H. Aliyev met with the resident representative of England to Azerbaijan Harold Formstock and French Ambassador Jan Perre.
March 8	It was opened the Islamic Republic of Iran’s consulate in Nakhchivan.
March 10	The Whitehouse started to render the emergency humanitarian assistance to Nakhchivan after H. Aliyev’s letter sent to the USA President B. Clinton. At 16:30 the “Boing” airplane flying with direct line from the USA landed on Nakhchivan airport; it brought a humanitarian assistance worth of one million USD.
March 16-19	By the invitation of the Iranian Foreign Minister H. Vilayati H. Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran.
March 18	in Tebriz H. Aliyev and Iran’s Eastern Azerbaijan Governor A. Abdulalizadeh signed a protocol of cooperation.
March 21	Nakhchivan got by plane 37 ton of humanitarian assistance from France
April 2	Armenians occupied Kelbejer district.
April 2	H. Aliyev made a speech at the meeting of the presidium of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis and called Armenian invasion of Kelbejer as an “attempt to our territorial integrity”.
April 10	The New Azerbaijan Party started to publish the newspaper “Yeni Azerbayjan”. H. Aliyev sent his congratulation letter to the newspaper.
April 16	H. Aliyev paid a business visit to the neighboring areas of Turkey. In Igdir H. Aliyev met the Turkish Minister o. Gilarchioglu.
April 19-25	H. Aliyev left for Turkey to participate at the funeral mourning of the Turkish President T. Ozal.
May 10	H. Aliyev was 70 years old. On this occasion the Supreme Mejlis of the Autonomous Republic got a huge number of congratulation telegrams from foreign representatives, from separate individuals, labor units of all over Azerbaijan.
May 10	A group of famous intellectual people arrived in Nakhchivan to congratulate H. Aliyev on his 70^th year birthday anniversary.
May 10-11	Sharur township, Serkhanli, Ashagi Aralig, Yukhari Yayji, Diza, Garkhun, Oglan Gala, Gudenge villages had been heavily undergone shelling by “Grad” weapons, tanks and canons from the Armenians Khatchik military basement.
May 13	in Nakhchivan H. Aliyev and Iran’s Western Azerbaijan Governor G. Seadet signed an agreement on cultural and economic cooperation.
May 14	At the border outpost between Sadarak and Ararat districts there was held a meeting between Nakhchivan and Armenian representatives. H. Aliyev and the deputy chairman of the Armenian Supreme Soviet A. Saakyan signed a communiqué on provision of security at the borderline settlements.
May 15	After the meeting conducted in Sadarak AzerTAC provided the ambitious information and Azerbaijan Milli Mejlis discussed this as an unhealthy event. The press service of Supreme Mejlis gave an official refutation in connection with this event and published the full text of communiqué on the press.
May 16	H. Aliyev sent a congratulation letter to S. Demiral on the occasion of his election as the President of the Turkish Republic.
May 21	The shootings continued in Sadarak. 5 soldiers of the national army were wounded.
June 7	Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis and the Presidium of the Cabinet of Ministers issued an appeal in connection with Ganja events.
June 9	at 15:00 the chairman of Nakhchivan AR’s Supreme Mejlis H. Aliyev arrived in Baku.
June 13	There was held an emergency meeting of Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic. The deputes had expected the Chairman of Supreme Soviet I. Gambar’s retirement.
June 13-14	The chairman of Nakhchivan AR Supreme Mejlis H. Aliyev visited Ganja city; it was discussed the ways for overcoming the acute political crisis.
June 15	At the meeting of Milli Mejlis H. Aliyev was elected as a Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic.
June 17-18	The Azerbaijan President A. Elchibay left Baku and went to Nakhchivan AR Kalaki village.
June 18	At 12:00 the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic H. Aliyev directly appealed to the people by National TV; he informed the people that he was obliged to take the President’s all authorities and responsibilities on himself due to the current situation.
June 23	Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic adopted a resolution on “Non capability of the Azerbaijan President A. G. Aliyev (Elchibay) to fulfill his presidential functions anymore and due to this the shifting of presidential authorities of the Azerbaijan Republic to the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic H. Aliyev”
August 29	It was conducted a referendum about trust to A. Elchibay. The result of referendum showed that 97.5 percent of respondents distrusted A. Elchibay.
October 3	It was conducted the Azerbaijan Republic presidential elections. According to the information provided by the Central Election Commission H. A. Aliyev got 98.8 percent votes for and 1 percent against. The Central Election Commission decided that H. A. Aliyev was elected as the President of the Azerbaijan Republic.
October 10	At the Republic Palace it was conducted an inauguration ceremony of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic H. Aliyev.
